Who I AM

My photo
Hello everyone, I am 23 years old and a Physical Education. I graduated from SUNY CORTLAND upstate New York. I am currently getting my masters in HPER at Emporia State University in Kansas.I currently work at Malverne High School as a leave replacement for physical education. I also teach 1 health and physical education class at the middle school for their district. I love volleyball and I am very competitive. I like challenges and being pushed to my limits. I've done some amazing DVD workouts such as Insanity and Insanity Asylum and P90X2. They can change your physical appearance tremendously. Your results are based on what you give in, how much you will push yourself, how much pain you can take and keep pushing knowing it will only benefit you. How much sweat are you willing to sweat? I believe that every person in this world can make a difference in a positive way, my way is by teaching. This blog is mainly from my undergraduate degree but I tend to add more post as I continue my career.

I HOPE, I BELIEVE, I WILL Statements

When I think about my future career a lot goes through my mind. Physical Education is a very competitive field because there so many majors and such little job openings. Physical education is getting cut from schools and in some states it is not mandatory. The people who are lucky enough to secure a job are like a diamond in the rough, rare and special.

As a future physical educator, I HOPE to be an inspiration to my students. My PE teachers inspired me to be whom I am today. My PE teacher was very into running, he was a marathon runner. He influenced me to start running and I fell in love. I HOPE to influence my students into trying something new and maybe they will fall in love with it like I did. He simply told me to go by a new watch. I remember his words, "want a new best friend? Go buy a running watch." I looked at him like he had 4 heads, but I did take him seriously and  went out to purchase one.  It ran me about 50 dollars. He was not lying when he said it would be my best friend. I went on to time myself in everything I did. I started running and it became a habit. I went on to run about 35 miles a week. I had what they call, "runners high." I ended up running  a 15k race to get my feet wet. Later on I trained for the Long Island Half Marathon. My teacher had what it took to influence me into this life changing experience and I want to be able to say the I've done the same for my students. I HOPE to change the worlds outlook on Physical Education. This is not easy and I do not expect it to happen overnight or even in years. It could take decades or a lifetime. I will do my best to point out to my peers, district, and community why students need to be physically active everyday. Obesity is a rising epidemic and I feel like it is my job to stop this or at least attempt to and change the outlook on Physical Education. I HOPE my students will follow my footsteps and the journey in becoming a Physical Education teacher.

I BELIEVE life is not about seeing who can live the longest, but who can create something that will. I want to have a positive influence on my students physical activity. I want my legacy of being physically active to live on. My students' will understand the concept that if you don't have time to work out or be active; you will have to find time for illness. The leading cause of death in America is heart disease. If you exercise at least 30 minutes a day you can prevent this catastrophic disease. I want my students to know what smoking and tobacco real does to you and how it is not the "cool" thing to do as a teenage or even an adult.  I BELIEVE that every single student I will come across has what it takes to help others. My students will work in groups and learn how to assist others and problem solve together. I will pick the groups and put my stronger students in different activities with weaker students so they take the lead and help them progress and gain more confidence.

I WILL motivate my students to try things they are not comfortable with. Life begins once your are out of your comfort zone. Each student will be motivated by me to give it their all. A student is not improving or progressing if something is too easy for them. They need to be challenged everyday physically and/or mentally. I WILL be there for all my students like a guidance counselor is. I want to gain the bond with them that they will tell me issues they have with others or family and assist them accordingly. I had teachers who I told personal things to and I felt comfortable with it because of the eagerness they had to help me. They always put a smile on my face when I was down and I want to do the same for my students. I WILL be the best Physical Education teacher in my district. I WILL expand my knowledge on the subject areas and keep up to date with the latest news and rules on the games or activities. I WILL expand my districts PE curriculum and make a change in the district.
