Who I AM
- Karagrozis
- Hello everyone, I am 23 years old and a Physical Education. I graduated from SUNY CORTLAND upstate New York. I am currently getting my masters in HPER at Emporia State University in Kansas.I currently work at Malverne High School as a leave replacement for physical education. I also teach 1 health and physical education class at the middle school for their district. I love volleyball and I am very competitive. I like challenges and being pushed to my limits. I've done some amazing DVD workouts such as Insanity and Insanity Asylum and P90X2. They can change your physical appearance tremendously. Your results are based on what you give in, how much you will push yourself, how much pain you can take and keep pushing knowing it will only benefit you. How much sweat are you willing to sweat? I believe that every person in this world can make a difference in a positive way, my way is by teaching. This blog is mainly from my undergraduate degree but I tend to add more post as I continue my career.

PEHOS
As I look back and reflect on my high school and even middle school days, I notice that a lot of the activities we did were on the Physical Education Hall Of Shame(PEHOS.) The PEHOS is a list of activities that should not be played in physical education class. Some of these games are the ones that the students loved the most, but they are not appropriate. One of the games that is still being played today in class' that I observed and personally is my favorite is Dodge Ball. This is possibly one of the worst PE games out there. The concept is basically to inflict pain and embareass your opponents by pegging a ball at them. This was one of my favorite games as well as almost any other student that you ask. As I learn more and more about PE each day, I know that this is not appropriate. This game was inducted into the PEHOS in 1992. Another activity that I enjoyed that is also on this list is Relay Races. This can be an 8 minute activity that you only get to participate in for 30 seconds. The rest of the time you are sitting there watching your teammates lose or win. This game can get very competitive and if you lose, you will never live it down. You now became the talk throughout the day of how you lost to so-and-so's team. A way to change this game to make it acceptable would be to have all your students constantly doing something while the one person is up to race. You can make the students in line do push ups, jumping jacks, or curl ups until they are next in line to do the relay. Once they finish they can go back in line and continue with the workouts. No student should be just sitting there watching. Physical Education is about keeping the students physically active all the time. Some students do not participate in intramural or athletics so this is the only activity they get, and it should not be wasted by them sitting around in a line for a relay race. As you can see, some of the oldest games, and the ones the students happen to love the most are on the PEHOS. You can click the link above to find out more about the PEHOS.
